CNN's Estimated # of Votes???

On the bottom of the screen CNN usually shows the percentage of estimated votes counted as opposed to % of precincts reported. Does anyone know how they estimate the number of votes to be cast for each state and how they update it? I would be interested in seeing the starting point for each state and comparing it with the final count.
