Anyone know a new option? Att shut down the sim for my dad’s internet that I setup with the unlimited data connect pass from the big thread on here. My setup still works for now but I’m sure it’s only a matter of time. Is there any other service that I can get I can have an At&t unlimited data sim to use in the Nighthawk M1?

Doesn't Verizon do the same?

Verizon would be a nice alternative if so.

I had the same setup, and when AT&T cancelled my plan I didn't find anything that I really liked. I wound up going with a cell plan from Visible, a subsidiary of Verizon (so, of course they use the Verizon network). The Visible plan has unlimited data, no data throttling, and you can set up a hotspot on your phone. One downside is that they do limit the phones that can be used on their network.

I've had good service in the city (I just checked my speed at 1 AM, and it was just over 100 Mbps with the Ping being 55ms but during the daytime it is less, usually around 60 Mbps with about the same ping - the lowest I've seen it was around 25 Mbps or so). I imagine that in a rural setup, there would be fewer towers available, so speeds would probably be less and the Ping might be higher.

The best thing however is the price - $40 a month, or it can actually be only $25 a month if you find three other people to Party Pay with, which is very easy to do (and there is no sharing of info between the people on the Party Pay).

One other downside is that you cannot talk directly to their reps - you have to either chat, tweet or use facebook messenger to contact them. I've used the chat feature and it was so-so, but I can live with that.

Do you just run a hotspot from your phone? Would I be able to plug the sim into my Nighthawk so that I can use my mesh WiFi network in the house?

I've just been running a hotspot from my phone, which of course means no internet at home if I'm away with my phone.

I doubt that the Visible sim would work in the Nighthawk (especially if the Nighthawk is not unlocked), but I don't know that for sure - Visible probably wouldn't want you to do it, but some internet searching may give you some answers or ideas.

If you do get it to work with your Nighthawk, let everyone know how you did it!

Question- if I buy a “mobile WiFi router for the house”... do I pay a t-mobile or att for an internet package? Or does the router just pull in signal from towers?

Also in a rural area and I do not want satellite internet

Yes, that’s what I’ve been doing and it works great. The only problem is that in order to do it in the past you had to buy a prepaid AT&T unlimited LTE data package that was intended to be used in an iPad. So if you used an iPad IMEI number when you registered the sim, you could use that SIM card in a mobile hotspot. It was awesome but AT&T has caught on to this and has removed the unlimited data plan option and is cancelling a lot of existing accounts now.

Just add another line to your account, don't get another phone just another line. You can take a newer extra phone or add a line and they will give you the sim for you to put in. If you just get the sim, you won't be locked in to a plan, you can cancel anytime. Even if you get a "free " phone, you will have to keep the new line until it is "paid" off. This is what I have done. I had the data connect pass and came home one day and it had been swept. Added a line, put it in the router and restored the service. Unlimited data. I use a d-link 922. My friend has the Mofi router, works great.

I been doing this as well. They just charged my card for my next month of service, a couple of days ago.
