Need new dryer. Have hookup for gas or electric. Old dryer was electric and slow in my opinion will probably do gas this time. IMO simple dryer probably performs the same as fancy ones. I think in general $ best spent on washer that really spins a lot of water out before drying. Any suggestions or recs? Thanks

Most on this board will tell you to find one of those speed queen washers and will further state that most of the new ones won't last.
I've had some LG top loader washer and an LG dryer for about 6 years and they've been ok, except I had to change a motherboard on the washer to the tune of $150 or so for the parts

I think speed queen changed their design for a year or so, but quickly changed it back. Something to do with the agitator. Best thing is to find an older speed queen or any older top load with mechanical controls. They wash better and just do a better job than the new crap. They won't text you when your load is through or play a melody at the change of each cycle, so there are tradeoffs.

As for a dryer? A dryer's pretty much a dryer. Not alot to screw up on them, design wise. It tumbles, it heats, clothes get dry.

I bought a Speed Queen in November. It’s been fine. No better or worse than any other dryer I’ve ever had.

Ours will sometimes "trap" clothes inside fitted sheets, but the flat ones do just fine so long as you shake them first before putting them into the dryer. But yeah.... when drying fitted sheets, sometimes you'll start to hear a whump whump whump which means all the clothes have gotten rolled up into a big ball inside the fitted sheet.

That's generally when my wife tells me I didn't put them into the dryer correctly. "You've to to shake everything out, put everything but the fitted sheet in there and then put the fitted sheet in."

Which I then respond to by saying... "Honey, do you know how to fold that fitted sheet so it goes on the shelf?"

"Just shut up, okay?"

I saw Martha Stewart show how to fold a fitted sheet so it'll fit back in it's package way back in college. Haven't forgotten. My wife usually either just puts them back on the bed or sort of rolls them up into something resembling a rolled up sleeping bag.
