Going on a cruise next week. Will stop in Cozumel, Jamaica and Grand Cayman. I have T-Mobile phone service. Anyone have any tips on what I need to do about service (calls and texts) while out of country?

You'll have to use one of their international plans

You should have coverage in Cozumel since it is Mexico but the service isn’t great. Honestly, I just turn airplane mode on so I can take pics and unplug for the week.

Dial 611. They’ll let you know what you need.

My folks are in Scotland right now and they have unlimited texts. They’ve been using that.

Okay, I checked with our TMobile rep, and they recommended that we get the data plan on the ship, and while we're on land, we're covered by the international plan for texting, web, etc. I think calls are 0.25 per minute.

That sounds about right. If you don’t absolutely have to have access on the ship, I suggest saving the money. It’s expensive.

T-Mobile offers free data and texts for most countries in most plans (calls 25 cents/minute). Additionally, WiFi calling is free, so you can purchase a WiFi plan for when you’re out at sea. Just make sure to turn on airplane mode during WiFi calls to avoid expensive fees.

Break away from technology. What do you need your phone for?
