Watching the U.S. Open when SO and I hear a loud pop behind us. Look up to an outlet on the brick fireplace and the surge protector on it is on fire. Pretty good sized flames but I was able to put the fire out. Turns out the power line between the house and the power pole had dropped down and damaged the electrical ground.

House had surges until power co fixed it, but all the other surge protectors worked well.

PSA. Some older Intertech surge protectors have fire issues. We were lucky to be at home.

I’m glad you are ok.

I was somehow expecting you to try and blame this incident on “The Great One” William Wade.

SO had the dogs ready to evacuate. Found out from the power company guy that two dogs burned up in a house fire about a mile from my house.

Apparently, the dogs were barking inside but no one did anything. One dog did get out.

A surprise flameout would be more of a Johnny Jones move.
