Some of the best writing in all of American contemporary literature (I'm considering WoW and W&R as one work). Just excellent stuff. Herman Wouk along with Leon Uris are two of my favorite American authors (and no, I'm not even Jewish).

They are excellent. Wouk's series on the birth of Israel is great too. "The Hope" and "The Glory".

quote:WoW, WaR, and the two on Israel are 4 of the best contemporary novels written by an American. Great characters, historically accurate... really enjoyable reading. Sad when done with all.

Reading WoW now. Impressed so far, Wouk is an eloquent writer.

Just finished both books on Audible.
Amazing books and truly fantastic narration.
I thought WoW was slightly better than WaR.
The Von Roon commentary on the war from German perspective with Pug’s commentary was fantastic.
Spoilers below:
Rhoda was a bitch. Glad Pug was able to find happiness. And she got what she deserved.
Jastrow was insufferable. Finally mans up when it’s too late.
Would love for him to give more on Natalie and Byron after reunion.
Madeline turned out to be a true badass. Was shocked that it was her behind the letters.
