Great show at Red Dragon tonight. He still has a great voice and he played all the stuff he co-wrote with Glenn Frey and Don Henley. He also had some great stories from the early days of the Eagles and Linda Rondstadt.

I've been on a little JD Souther kick lately.
Any reason he never ended up in the Eagles?

My best guess is that Henley considered him more of a songwriter than a performer. He wouldn't have added anything to the mix, I guess, as a full member.

I’ve heard him say that Frey and Henley approached him at the beginning and he declined the offer. Felt that they had a good group as it was and at the time he preferred to work on his songwriting alone. Also, he was dating Linda Rondstadt at the time, and with Henley & Frey leaving her band, I got the impression that he felt it would’ve hurt the relationship.
He’s performed with them a number of times so he’s kind of an unofficial Eagle.

The interweb seems to suggest that JDS made derogatory comments about the Red Dragon, Chris, and the audience. Can anyone shed any light?
