Going to Petersburg, AK to do some fishing at the end of July. Anyone ever been there and fished? Going to a place called Island Pointe Lodge, it’s basically a self guided trip.

Think the Lodge is on the Wrangell Narrows, south of town. It's beautiful country, you should be right in the prime season for Sockeye.

They may close King Salmon sport fishing or highly restrict it. Might check with the Lodge. We had a highly restricted season here in Juneau last year

Yeah it is in the wrangell narrows, supposed to be good halibut fishing...pretty excited to go...I think we have to have a stamp for kings...even at that I don’t know how many we are allowed to keep....my mother-in-law and wife are staying the actual town of Petersburg for the week...I’m hoping they can find something to do since they didn’t want to go fish

Alaska Air flies between Petersburg and Juneau. It's a 25 min flight. Have them visit Juneau for a few days, there's a lot more to do

From Petersburg they can visit the Leconte Glacier by day boat. Maybe even Tracy Arm.

Petersburg has a lot of Norwegian Heritage and is a cool town but they may bet bored after 3 days or so.

Fishing is great around PSG. You'll definitely load up on halibut.

I have been to Petersburg twice fishing. Once from Green Rocks Lodge next door to island point and then self guided where I rented a boat. I love Petersburg, great little town. I am fixing to leave for Mardi Gras week but if you want to talk I will gladly tell you everything I know about the area after I get back. FWIW I live near BR.

I fished out of Ketchikan caught pinks, silvers, halibut and 1 king.

Pinks we had smoked, halibut and silvers were delicious, king was not..

Caught an 86lb halibut just inside the southern mouth of wrangell narrows my last year in Ketchikan (2015). Lots of great fishing all over Southeast Alaska

It's a cool little place.

The flight which is the SE milk run might be the best anywhere in the USA when the weather is decent. It's like flightseeing in a 737 coming up from Ketchikan.

Since football and hunting is all over for the year, I am feeling kind of lost. This is giving me the fever to head up that way to do some fishing!

Get down to Anan Creek near Wrangell if you can. One of the few places to see both brown and black bears fishing. There's a short trail and observation deck
