Anybody had a tummy tuck? I have lost a significant amount of weight. Hanging skin is causing some skin issues. Insurance will pay because of the skin issues.

Anybody had this done after weight loss. How was the pain and recovery? How long did you take off from work?

No pics.....I’m a dude.

I have. Lost 90 lbs 5 years ago and had one pregnancy so I had some lower abdominal skin that I was embarrassed by. Most people didn't even notice that I needed one. Even in swimsuits. I was a size 2 at the time of the tummy tuck and my waist size has barely started to go down below that. The swelling takes weeks upon weeks to go away and comes back with a lot of excercise. I had a full muscle repair too. My abdominal muscles were stitched tightly from under my breasts all the way to pubic bone. I did not need any lipo. My scars are about 3 inches past my hip bones into my upper butt. Completely hidden in even the tiniest of underwear. It was very painful for me, but I think it was mostly the muscle repair that hurts. My weight has not changed. Steady at 110. Skin and fat isn't as heavy as you might think.

ETA: if you are just doing skin removal I'd take off of work for atleast 1 week. Probably 2. With muscle repair up to 6 weeks off. I just got the go ahead for using weights again. I am 3 months post op.

Sounds like what my Mom had done about 15 years ago. She was going in for a breast reduction, and that was covered by insurance. The surgeon said that the stomach skin and muscle repair would probably be covered too. It was a rough recovery, she couldn't sit up without someone helping her. But after a few weeks she was able to get around fine. She's exactly like my grandmother, and always been on the skinny side.

Thanks for the info. Did you have drains? The doctor I am thinking about using said they use TissueGlu and not the drains. I would have to pay out of pocket for the TissueGlu but seems like it would be worth it to not deal with the drains. I shouldn’t have to have muscles repaired, just the skin removed.

Yes I had two drains. The drain tubes came out on each side of my body, but the actual drain is a long flat thing that basically stretches the width of your incision. Google Jackson Pratt drain. Or don't maybe. Their removal did not hurt and they came out on PO day 5. Idk how much I'd have spent on drainless surgery/tissue glue. I'd done a decent amount of research and wanted the fluid out, personally. I also had a breast lift and augmentation that produces fluid that must come down. Sorry to be graphic. All of this being said I am very, very pleased with my results and I am almost to the point I'd say I would do it again. Your surgery should be much easier and you will be glad to have skin gone. Make sure your surgeon is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. Not just a cosmetic surgeon. Look at other men's results. Play close attention to belly buttons and how they look. I also paid about 500 more for exparel. It's a numbing medication that they inject throughout the abdomen that a lot of people said was worth it for pain relief.
