I'm slow-playing it, trying to max Kiryu's abilities and fight Majima everywhere.

Frick the combat in this game. Way worse than any of the fighting in Y3-5 and Zero. Basically spam Tiger Drop against bosses. Really disappointed they left the combat in this shape.

Other than that, though, it's cool to play Yakuza with the new additions.

The combat in Yakuza has never been great. It's basically Die Hard the Arcade game in open world red light district Tokyo.

That said, I felt that combat was on par with Zero, but the bosses were a lot more annoying. I hated the dumb mechanic where you had to switch combat styles and perform a heat action to stop bosses from regaining health. The all seemed like they block for days and have the superhuman ability to dodge everything you do.

A lot of that is just due to staying true to how the bosses were originally designed. I agree with a lot of the reviews who say it's interesting to see how far the series has come since the first game. I wouldn't necessarily say this makes Kiwami a bad game, but it is what it is.
