inspired by the Dave Brubeck thread.

I saw him a little over a year ago and the thrill was near about gone then. He was wheeled out in a wheelchair and for the most part he let his guitar buddy play and he just sat there watching him and occasionally striking a chord on his guitar and sing a few lines of a song.

He definitely spends more time talking than playing now. Telling stories and such. Didn't even play the solo to the thrill is gone. However he is a legend and still worth seeing esp. if you haven't ever seen him.

I prefer to remember him from the many shows I saw him play at Club Ebony in Indianola. Saw him there maybe 12 times, truly a great experience. My favorite was the time I was standing in front of the stage, right in front of the man, and as he hit his last note on The Thrill, he handed me his pick and walked off the stage Used to hang out with the band eating fried catfish there also. Here are a couple of pictures ( I didn't take these). The last is from the last time I saw him there in 2004 when Kenny Wayne Shepard showed up and jammed with him.
Last time I saw him play was in 2009 I think here at the HOB in Houston. I was amazed he played as much as he did then, but I've heard that he really doesn't play as much anymore. If you've never paid your respects to the King though, I suggest you do.
