I'm a huge fan, man. You do great work. What wows me the most is the smoothness of your overlays in a gif. It's never jumpy and the tracking is just fricking smooth. What do you use to help the tracking an object between frames? Thanks for revealing any secrets.

I use the Mocha planar tracker that comes with After Effects CS6, not the After Effects point tracker. I am glad you enjoy the gifs.

How much easier is it to make gifs with After Effects? Is there a big difference with the time it takes and the features?

Once you get over the learning curve, it is way faster, and has tons more features.

Got After Effects. Spent a few minutes playing around with it. The learning curve looks like Mt. Everest.

Hey is there a way to import gifs into Mocha, or can you only open video and still frame pictures? Thanks!

No there is not. Just import the gif to after effects, add it to render cue, set the render settings to quicktime movie (.mov) and set the codec to animation at 100%. This will make the clip lossless of any quality. Now just import the new .mov you just exported an you can work with it in Mocha.

I'm just going to pay the monthly price for the Creative Cloud membership. For the little bit of time I can use my educational discount it's $20 a month, and you can get 3 months through amazon for $99.
I've not had any luck turning off the auto-updates for Windows 7. I couldn't justify the expense for something I just played with, but now that I'm making some money from the software I might as well go legit.

I finally made a gif, but I couldn't ever get the Mocha to work correctly (even after a dozen plus tutorials). Not sure why. I ended up making a bunch of manual position keyframe changes for the face.
I normally pick this stuff up pretty quickly, but it's been a weeks worth of facepalms so far.
When you do it, do you render it as a quicktime mov and open in PS to save as a gif?

Man I gotta learn how to do this shite. I'm comfortable with Photoshop and Premiere Pro, but After Effects looks frickin' hard to learn.

It's not near as difficult as you think. The tutorials are very helpful, especially VideoCopilot ones.
