I’m saving ep3 for tonite so I can get my shite done, build a fire, catch a buzz and get immersed in it. We are so fortunate this got recorded so well. It’s like a damn time machine
George makes a very interesting point in ep2 when they are talking about recording live, something about when they were doing albums and not playing live, that the final “take” is now preserved forever so the temptation is to keep fricking with it indefinitely to get it right. Whereas when songs are played live, they continue to change and mutate.
I just found that comment so apt as far as the reason they could not continue...that kind of perfectionism is better suited to a solo artist. What they could not do, and john/paul basically admitted it in that taped conversation, was allow the songwriter of a particular song to be the bandleader for that song. They couldn’t make themselves “not” be a group. And for all the highs of the subsequent solo careers none of them every reached the quality and quantity of even any single Beatles album.
