I guess I’m saying we all, have a tendency to frame things in a polar manner. Two years ago, he was the greatest(fielding what was likely the greatest NC team ever), and now he’s terrible. Within knowing the facts, beyond the poor field performances, I think Ed is basically a good person, with a great knowledge of the game, while at the same time, continues to struggle with demons we had all hoped that he had conquered. Having received grace and redemption myself, I look for that day in others. I know that Ed is leaving with a lot of $$$$, but if that’s all he’s “leaving with”, it’s truly sad. As trite as it is, money does not buy happiness. I genuinely hope he reaches that in his life where he’s at peace with himself and others. It’s priceless!

Sometimes money only buys some people more and larger luggage to take you along the journey. Money is not the root of all evil--it's the love of it that is. Most people never master success and prosperity--but those who do live can learn to live life to the fullest. Hopefully Ed finds soon enough that the pot of gold at the end of that rainbow he's chasing won't crash him at the dead end of the road.
