Over the last 3 seasons only Alabama, Georgia and LSU have had top 5 ranked classes in each of those years. If you extend the rankings a bit further, the top 5 schools over that 3 year time period are (on average): Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Ohio St, Clemson. Four of those programs are in the hunt annually for playoff spots (though Clemson is struggling this season).
So it begs the question: Are LSU's last three recruiting classes GROSSLY overrated while the other schools who annually rank in the top 5 accurately ranked? Or is it more likely a case of those other schools having competent coaches coaching and developing that talent whereas LSU has wasted the last two seasons with a buffoon in charge who has hired FOUR coordinators over the last two years who has ZERO market demand as coordinators whatsoever?
Recruiting is a HUGE part of the equation. No one will deny that. But you can just run star players out on the field and expect them to be great. LSU is paring top 5 talent with bottom 5 (relative to P5 conferences) coaching. The results? .500 record.
