I would NOT be enthused by a Bill O’Brien hire, but using the NFL thing as a reason he’d be bad is a bit confusing to me.

Houston won 4 division titles in his 6 years there, and had a winning record 5 of 6 seasons. Things ended badly for him when he took on the dual role of HC/GM. And the Hopkins trade was horrible - he deserves all the criticism he gets for that one. Regarding his overall talent evaluation skills I have little knowledge.

I know Nick Saban wasn’t very good at Miami and chose Daunte Culpepper over Drew Brees. And walked away after 2 years.

The concern I have with O’Brien is his extremely little experience as a college head coach and never having built a program. Hiring him would go against hiring the proven college head coach, which I think is high on SW’s list.

And the Schiano comp seems off also. UT fans fought his hire because of the allegations he was aware of the sexual abuse at PSU during his time there, not because they just didn’t like him as a football coach. If LSU fans did that you can bet a lot of the top guys would say to hell with going to LSU.

Lastly I don’t think I believe one damned thing Matt Moscona or any local media spout about what they’re hearing. They’ve been consistently wrong. They don’t have as high level sources as they may think, or these guys are steering them in the wrong direction to keep the real top targets out of the public realm.
