The side plot of the cop and his brother being the main one running things was a little unnecessary and boring. But it didn’t bother me much. As I said, the worst part for me was the VIPs. They added nothing to the story at all, and actually took away from it a bit for me.

The cops' plot line bugged me mainly because it had no conclusion. I didn't mind the VIP plot as much as most because while a trope it gave the other side of the game which I think the story needs but some might prefer to leave it nebulous. I put a lot of the cringiness down to lose in translation. If I spoke Korean I might have a better feel for how bad it was.

Still haven't finished Alice yet but I am still enjoying it. It is the same but different. I think the Squid Game games are more intense since they often require a high percentage of players to die. It does seem to be moving to a much more complex situation than Squid though.

With Alice I liked the slow reveal of the big picture (that is largely still a mystery). In squid the deal is pretty straightforward and we know what's going on pretty early.

Spoilers:
I think both the VIP and brother storylines were good, but could've been executed better. I mean, the game had to funded somehow, so I already assumed there were sleezy rich dudes betting on it from somewhere.

I think that if they had revealed a little more of the brother's timeline it would've been more interesting. What happened between 2015 and now? Has he been missing this whole time? What did he do with all the money?
