Because their houses have no roofs. I guess no power > no roof. But who am I to question.

I really don't understand why so many are giving such a hard time on this.

Last year for Laura, it was much more comfortable for my family and my sister's family to stay and my mom and dad's. It total, including small kids, it's 11 people.

They have a large room with had 4 mattresses and 1 air mattress in. We kept the doors shut and had 2 window units and generator dedicated to this room to keep it comfortable.

They also have gas, while my sister and I have electric. We had a separate generator for the rest of the house and refrigerators/freezers. We rotated paying for gas and cooking.

Also, it's much easier for kids, , cousins to keep them selves entertained with no electricity.

Combining 3 families resources during these times made more sense to us and I'm sure the OP's situation is similar.
