It was simpyl an ugly match all the way around, but the good sign is the team never looked rattled and didn't play much on its back foot. They were miserable in the final third, a function of not having Pulisic and still searching for a striker, but they had the bulk of the chances in the game.
The USMNT won the xG battle 1.78-0.32. Now, xG isn't everything, but it is a good rough tool, and it show that the US dominated the game, but simply couldn't finish. They should have found that goal, and played well enough to do so. If they play like this throughout qualifying, I'm not worried.
Only Mexico won, so it's not like we lost pace on the standings. But it turns Canada and Honduras into more important games. You have to beat Canada at home, and Honduras is pretty much the same quaity as El Salvador, and it'll be on the road. You wanted to beat one of the two, now it has to be Honduras.
For a young squad missing its best player, this wasn't the worst result, and I do like how they played overall, save for the finishing. Who would've guessed we wouldn't be talking about Tim Ream?

Agree with all of this except El Salvador being level with Honduras. I think Honduras is much stronger and it’s going to be a battle coming out of there with a point.
