I can and have killed squirrels DRT beyond 100 yds with a 17hmr bolt action. It didn't take me a box of ammo to realize the little 2-7x rimfire scope I bought with my first HMR wasn't enough scope for the little guns potential. IMO it's the way the ammo is made that gives the 17hmr the advantage over a 22 in accuracy.
