Those preceded the Two Trees. Melkor destroyed the lamps and the symmetry of Arda doing vast damage to almost all of it where the Valar fled to the West. There Yavanna sang into existence the Two Trees and Nienna watered them with her tears. Ages later shortly before the Awakening of Men, Melkor and Ungoliant destroyed the two trees using Ungoliant to poison them as well.
