At a crossroads in life and I am curious the OT take as I value the varied opinions here.

I love my family. I would do anything for them.

However, how do you handle family discussions/ family time when one side is extremely conservative/extremely liberal?

I am trying to decide if it is better to spend time with them and keep my mouth closed or just avoid spending time with them to avoid such discussions.

"you've come to the right place"

couldn't resist that curve ball

to answer your question, (I am biased) conservatives have better arguments that often follow a moral code of consistency and common sense

If you are going to engage in a political discussion, then at least have a position to start with

listen, try to understand, speak softly in response

I tend to get worked up, so speaking softly is my weakness...

speaking softly prevents a fool from getting riled up...and a great many liberals are fools...the name calling starts quickly when you challenge their positions with logic and common sense

My wife hates to have political discussions, my teenagers don't mind it...

we're all pretty consistent in our views...so nothing goes sideways

I have a cousin who has 3 degrees and never worked a day in his life, he's now 60!!! living off a nice inheritance...we don't see eye to eye on politics

every now and then we swap emails...he tries to rebuke me sometimes, I don't have any of it
