My wife and I and another couple did exactly this a few years ago, amazing trip and I can't wait to go back one day.
Here is a detailed review of our trip that I posted on TD, however I just realized I never finished adding in Dubrovnik details.

Then I heard about Dubrovnik, Croatia...which - from the photos I've seen - appears like it could be a legit contender for the coolest town I've ever visited.
To be honest, Dubrovnik was the least favorite part of the trip for me. Very touristy, packed, everything is much more expensive there. By the time we had seen the rest of the Croatian coast, it was just meh for me. Glad I went atleast once to experience it but when we go back, we will probably omit Dubrovnik from the itinerary.

Great trip report! Knowing what you know today Mr. Makers, where's the one place you'd say "man, I just gotta go back there"?

We noodle an Adriatic Coast type trip in a few years for my son's birthday and these topics are of keen interest to me.

Thanks for all the info! Very useful for my research.

And thanks for the tip about Dubrovnik. Hmmm. My wife and I are definitely bigger fans of quieter, under-the-radar type of cities. Would much rather explore and culturally immerse ourselves with the locals than mill around with tourists.

Whether or not we should visit Dubrovnik will be a key part of our decision-making because of it's location.

How difficult is it to get to/from Hvar? Difficult enough to make it worth staying more than 2 days?
