First enduro of the season in the books. The boy ended up taking 3rd in Pro. Over nearly 10 minutes of racing, he was 11 seconds off 1st place and 2 seconds off 2nd place. He had a crash on first stage of the day. He'd blown up his wheel the day before during preride, so I loaned him my wheel, which isn't as tough as the one he blew up. So he overinflated the rear tire to protect the wheel and slid out in a corner early in the stage. Probably wouldn't have put him in 1st without the crash, but it would have likely let him take 2nd. Oh well, the pace is there. He was 1st on one stage and bounced between 2nd and 3rd on the other 5 stages (1st place rider is a legit pro who makes his living in the bike industry. 2nd place racer is a college student who is also making a run at being a pro).
Tennessee Nationals in 10 days, and we're still trying to sort out a bike for the season. His current bike is too small for him and pretty clapped out. The frame that was supposed to have shipped at the end of February still hasn't arrived, so we're looking at other options, unfortunately.
He had an offer for a new frame sponsor over the weekend. We also might just build out my Stumpy Evo for him to race at Tennessee, since it's sized appropriately. Just need to swap some parts over and do some other relatively minor adjustments.
Hoping for good weather for Tennessee. I hate racing Windrock in the wet.
