That high school is not far away from me. Guthrie always has a good program.

I got to watch them beat Booker T. Washington in the state championship a couple years ago (2003). That Booker T. team had Robert Meachem and Felix Jones... and probably a host of other D1 players.

Guthrie had David Washington (who I think still plays at Okie State) who was a solid lineman. But Guthrie's Qb doubled as corner and really did a number on Meachem. I was surprised he wasn't a D1 talent...

I played basketball with David Robinson in high school. Guthrie won state championships in football in 2002 and 2007.

Yeah, I guess it was the 2002 season. I graduated HS in May of 2003, and they won that previous fall.

Guthrie was horrible in sports during the 90s. But when they hired Rafe Watkins as football coach, he turned the program around. They are on a 15 game winning streak, and actually won the 5a state championship in basketball last year.

Yeah, my high school (Altus) played them in '01 and beat them in Guthrie in the first round of the playoffs. It was cold as balls.

We went on to beat undefeated McAlester in a stomping and then got smoked by Carl Albert who had FS/TE JD Runnels (future OU fullback) and a few other D1 type of players.

Guthrie has been steadily good for the last several years or so.

You live in Oklahoma?

I went to Union in Tulsa ('class of 91)...and Booker T. used to beat us up. My brother played on the D-line at Union in '87 and '88.

My dad is from Headrick but all of his side of the family lived in Altus. My uncle used to own the restaurant in that Ramada Inn (long time ago)...which used to be the nicest hotel in town. I haven't been there in forever.

Booker T used to have some great squads, especially in the mid-90s with DeMond Parker.

I always remember them having great athletes in the late 80's, early 90's. By mid-1991, the family moved to LA, and I was at LSU at the pinnacle of LSU suckdom. I was also too busy trying to pick up chicks to pay any attention to football...especially back in OK...but I believe you that they were still good.

Yea. Now Jenks and Union are the dominant forces in Oklahoma high school football.
