Don't go crazy here.
No. There is certainly some Soviet mentality in his thinking, it comes out every once and a while. But he is a Russian nationalist and everything he does is in that spirit, from his internal policy, foreign policy, and even aesthetic proclivities.

He's also Russian Orthodox, has a street named after him in Bethlehem, and made a pilgrimage to Mount Athos not too long ago.

Russian nationalism is intertwined with sovietism. He has consistently tried to regain lost territory, is general anti capitalism for the people and has no qualms about retriggering cold war conflicts
