A few years back I bought a 1980 Porsche 911 that was advertised to have 88,000 original miles on it. I was skeptical, but did notice that the tires had plenty of tread on them and after checking the serial number as you pointed out, saw that they were manufactured in 1990. I changed the tires but took photos of them on the car in case I ever want to sell the car and prove to someone that the mileage is indeed that low.
