This was all on the way under all previous presidents since the brits left in ‘92 (ish?). Once that occurred what practically could anyone do? We’re not going to war with China over a city. We’re just not, regardless of who is president. It’s unfortunate but those folks should have been leaving since ‘92.

Chinese President Deng Xiaoping told Thatcher China really didn't need to negotiate & " China could take Hong Kong in 1 day" . Thatcher agreed. Hong Kong isn't the Falkands & the British forced " lease" is over.
All totalitarian regimes eventually collapse & so shall the CCP.
