Neither have made bullet-proof engines since the late 1990's. One thing you don't know about engines, particularly the heavily optimised ones that go in plug-in EV's, is that they actually need to be ran on a regular basis if you expect a decent lifespan out of them. Short drive cycles and very long service intervals (let's face it, lazy dolts that buy these things certainly don't have a mind for mechanical maintenance, they probably operate under the assumption that an oil change could last years if the only driven in EV mode) don't equate to long term durability or reliability.

And in the real world most plug-ins don't achieve anything close to their manufacturer's claims. They see a bigger hit than conventional hybrids in season weather extremes especially.

Sure, because you pronounce it so and such it must be true. I and my fiancee have well over 50 mile/day averages commutes, I personally have many days of over 100 miles of driving. Fact more people post-COVID will be seeing longer commutes for work as so many took the opportunity to move away from urban settings. Baseless generalizations seem be common amongst EV homers.

I simply exercise due diligence and situational awareness, which is why I have gas cans and a gasoline generator in my shop/garage.

They cost more, significantly so, than conventional hybrids which was the point I actually made. Taking your Rav4 example the Prime base trim starts higher than the loaded conventional hybrid model.
