A. Most plug in hybrids take 5-8 hours on a base 120v charge.
Yes, overnight. Far cry from "next to no time".

In EV mode, you're using absolutely nothing from your gas engine, channels like scotty kilmer and toyota tech channels confirm this.
I actually pay attention to those like David L. Jones, real engineers that don't peddle BS to sell something.
quote:
So you already, in the case of lets say a toyota or honda engine, already make a bullet proof engine last even longer.
Neither have made bullet-proof engines since the late 1990's. One thing you don't know about engines, particularly the heavily optimised ones that go in plug-in EV's, is that they actually need to be ran on a regular basis if you expect a decent lifespan out of them. Short drive cycles and very long service intervals (let's face it, lazy dolts that buy these things certainly don't have a mind for mechanical maintenance, they probably operate under the assumption that an oil change could last years if the only driven in EV mode) don't equate to long term durability or reliability.

in hybrid mode, if you decide to run both engines at once, you're getting nearly 120 miles per gallon at that point. Which it's a better idea for longer commutes to run it that way.
And in the real world most plug-ins don't achieve anything close to their manufacturer's claims. They see a bigger hit than conventional hybrids in season weather extremes especially.

a 50 mile range, and can be used as a full city ev vehicle since no one in their right mind needs more than that range for daily driving.
Sure, because you pronounce it so and such it must be true. I and my fiancee have well over 50 mile/day averages commutes, I personally have many days of over 100 miles of driving. Fact more people post-COVID will be seeing longer commutes for work as so many took the opportunity to move away from urban settings. Baseless generalizations seem be common amongst EV homers.

but i also have the piece of mind knowing that my 600 mile range gas tank will always bail me out when mother nature or issues with the ev motor happen.
I simply exercise due diligence and situational awareness, which is why I have gas cans and a gasoline generator in my shop/garage.
quote:
They're cheaper than most standard evs, outside of teslas cheaper options.
They cost more, significantly so, than conventional hybrids which was the point I actually made. Taking your Rav4 example the Prime base trim starts higher than the loaded conventional hybrid model.

You have no frame of reference here.
I actually do but also have a STEM education that affords me a much deeper understanding of automotive engineering, electrical systems, thermodynamics, and materials science than you seem to possess.
