No, Timothy Leary's research peaked the interest of the CIA and he was transitioned from his academic position (where he was bumping into issues at Harvard because he was kind of a twat) to the clandestine MKUltra program where he continued experimentation and became the "face" of the hippie movement, eventually becoming a sort of distribution hub for large quantities of Sandoz Lab produced LSD across the West Coast. The feds bought the entire stock and then distributed it to California and New York.

If what you describe is in the book recommended, I recommend people look for other sources cause that's a total re-write of history.
