If he fought back 'too hard' the police would have arrested him, not hard enough and he dies, the only option they want you to have is to submit to your attackers and let them do whatever they want

If you're ever unlucky enough to be in a situation like this just understand that your life is already over so do as much damage on the way out as possible. Kill your attackers and anyone that comes to arrest you for it, they'll eventually get you but you'll have made them pay for it dearly
