Sam could have called Pepper Potts and got as much money as he needed to help the family. The Stark Company isn't exactly hurting for money.
I actually like the idea of character driven stories that don't rely on super hero gimmicks. These are two emotionally damaged guys that need each other because few people have walked in their shoes.
I think the opening sequence with Sam being a solo bad arse was a nice way to get the fans invested.

I agree with this. I really like seeing how good he is at what he does without Steve in front of him, he can stand on his own. I like the fact that he repairs his own gear too.
I really liked the slow burn of Bucky's role in the first episode too. Showing that remnants of the past are still there but he is trying to atone from it.
