A friend of mine started for Tulane for the last 2 years.
He said smith was much more focussed on analytics and the mindsets/approach of players, and less about mechanics. Really wanted them to hit the ball at a certain degree off the bat, and approach each at bat with a good strategy.
Basically, his thought process is if you're already at LSU, you don't need many mechanical changes to your swing. (Unless something was glaringly wrong with your swing).
It seems like that's worked.
