I often wonder did we have to "island hop" at all? Maybe Mac Arthur had the right idea and we went about it the wrong way.

Once we won at Midway and Coral Sea we pretty much had the Japanese cut off. All we had to do was sink the rest of their shipping and let the troops on the various islands starve. Can't fly planes or do much without fuel and supplies. We want Iwo Jima for instance. We take it later after cutting it off and starving those troops out. They can bushido and banzai all they want, they still have to eat.

For that matter instead of firebombing cities, maybe we should have been destroying crops and attacking fishing vessels. Let them ship troops to the main islands they have to feed them, then destroy as much food as we can.

Instead of losing all those men just starve them out. War ends in 1946 maybe and a bunch of starved out husks give it up

Folks that have a chance to visit Manila, need to take the day boat trip to Corridgador. Its been maintained in original context well and shows the horror of the navel bombardments. Probably the best kept and expenses paid for by the *US
