We had 25 years on a Kenmore set in the home we just sold.
For out new house we bought a set of Maytag just like the one TU Rob posted. Comforting to hear the positive reviews
It is great. We wash towels/underwear/socks pretty much every day. Between the wife and I and our 3 kids, that's 4-5 towels, along with any light clothes that we throw in there. The speed cycle is great, and there's some Power wash setting that we use for sheets and other bedding.
The full story is that 8 years ago we did two major home renovations. We converted an existing hallway bathroom into a laundry and half bath. Then we converted our old den into a master bath and closet. The main point was to get the laundry out of the basement, but that meant losing the tub/shower combo in there, so we converted the den shortly after and did a shower stall, dual sink vanity, and an acrylic clawfoot tub, as well as a smaller walk-in closet.
At the time, the wife wanted the "pretty frontloader washer" so we got a GE set from Home Depot. It worked great for years, never had any issues with smells or anything. Then one day the rubber gasket at the washer door got a hole in it, and I took the whole damn thing apart to replace it. Then a few years ago the dryer was acting up. Something was off with the timer or moisture sensors, and it would cut off before everything was dry. I cleaned out the dryer ducts, cleaned out the dryer, and it still wasn't working all the time. I was sick of fooling with them, bought the Maytag top loader and matching dryer and it has been awesome.

Junk and whats worse is having bought the Lowes extended warranty. Will never buy again. It takes two weeks for service to the north shore Hammond. Then if he doesn't fix it another two weeks to return. Went thru this for intermittent problem until they replaced the electronics. Guess what every one out of ten washes it fails.... POS

I got the Maytag Commercial

2nd for Maytag commercial, was ordering speed queen but it was the year they changed design so went with Maytag instead
3rd for Maytag commercial. Did lots of research on it, and come to find out Speed Queen of recent is nowhere near being the same Speed Queen that developed the reputation. The Maytag Commercial is comparable to the Speed Queen, and a few hundred cheaper.
Have zero complaints with mine so far.
