Maturing between the ears is as important as improving their game. Kwame Brown ring a bell? A year or 2 in college would have prepared him some for what he was in for. I'm sure a little more maturity would have gone a long way in how M. Fultz handled his injury.
I'm sure you're not saying players don't improve on the court year to year in college. I'm stuck on Tim Duncan right now or I'd give some examples.
Growing up some before being surrounded by guys who are older than you, have their own influences and habits---good or bad---and being expected to produce whether in practice or games is only a good idea.
Some guys can handle it. Most are not ready for what they face whether they reach expected levels of production or not.
