From the sounds of it on this board though, IMO people are not really being fair to servers when this happens. Unless shite has changed since I waited tables in college, it was never my option to add the auto-tip, it was on parties of 6 or more, I imagine that's still the norm in some form or fashion.
If you normally tip 20-25%, and the restaurant auto adds 18% and you decide that's all you're tipping, that's fine, it's certainly not a huge deal. But I'd just add that you're tipping the server less than you normally would for something that I don't think generally speaking the server has anything to do with it and it isn't their call.
