I was thinking the same thing.

I know he pitched a lot in high school, but he’s obviously hit—and hit well—all his life. But he doesn’t look natural up there at all. Usually you don’t see that unless there is an extended period of few ABs/reps like a pitcher in the bigs who hasn’t hit since high school. Look how different Morgan looks as a true freshman standing in there. Or I remember knowing Cabrera was gonna hit simply by how he looked taking a pitch in his 1st collegiate AB. Hellmers just doesn’t look natural up there.

But his looking a bit awkward doesn’t matter if he can square it up, and I’m sure he must be able to or he wouldn’t be in there. I didn’t realize he was 6’4”. He’s probably run into a few in practice and Paul wants his power potential in the middle-bottom half of the lineup. Hopefully just early season jitters, but he’s gonna have to start running into em pretty quick to overcome the E5s.
