Not known, but pretty sure wife (no pics) and I were in the presence of someone pretty high ranking. We went to Sparks on a trip to NY a few years back and I had of course told her all about the Castellano story before we went. I was certain that the place would not be a hangout now given its infamy and the beginning of dinner pretty much confirmed this - it was mostly tables of tourists and young NY lawyers coming in after work.

Then I note that there’s a table up front that is being set before any one is sitting there. Then a few really good looking women come in followed by two guys in suits who sit at a nearby table. The waiters don’t even go to the guys at the table. A few minutes after that, this guy strolls in dressed no shite like Tony Soprano - a short sleeve pullover, dark slacks, leather loafers and no socks, and hair slicked back. This guy greets with host at the door with the European side kisses and goes to sit with the two women. Facing the front door of course.

This guy then proceeds to hold court for the two women sitting there. Wine and a lot of food was waiting on the table when he sat. The only thing I could hear - along with the rest of the restaurant - was the punchline of one of his stories/jokes which was “...... and I said frick YOOOU!” followed by him laughing his arse off.

This guy looked so much the part that it could have been performance art. But I’ve also heard that Sparks has a very short tolerance for mafia jokes and really frowns on people laying out on the sidewalk like Castellano. I can’t imagine Sparks would play along with someone doing mafia pretend. But I guess that’s possible. But I also sat there thinking there’s no way that mafia is going to hang out at Sparks like that because it’s too obvious. So I don’t know. If this guy wasn’t a made man, he sure had me fooled.
