For me it’s not so much one particular game that did it, but rather the jump from NES to Super NES/Sega that blew my mind. Felt like playing arcade games in your house.
If I had to pick one game that gave me that feeling I think it would be Mortal Kombat on sega.

Firing up the Sega Genesis on Christmas morning in 1989 and playing a playing pretty damn near arcade quality ports of Altered Beast and Ghouls and Ghost was pretty spectacular.
