We have been using bunny ears for years for our TV to give us the local channels when tailgating. Can someone tell me what would be the best satellite package and provider for getting ESPN,ESPN2, and the local channels? Also how much can I expect to be paying for the satellite, receiver, tripod, etc.

I've got directv, and just plug in a set of rabbit ears into the box to get the locals in HD. The HD box cost me $50 on ebay, satellite and tripod cost ~$100 (also from ebay), service is an extra $5/month for the extra box.

We bought a DirecTV HD Receiver from Walmart for $100. As for the satellite, we bought one from a guy that was switching to cable for $20. We just use a 5 gallon bucket filled with concrete and a fence pole to mount it, however a tripod will be more stable.

As far as service, same as the post above. Find someone who has DirecTV and get them to add a box to their account. Give them like $20 for the season and you are ready to go.

Directv is amazing; they even offer an RV satellite dish and receiver system: LINK

Expect to pay about $75/month for a package that has ESPN/2/U etc.

The receiver/dish system may cost you ~$250 but may have a mail-in-rebate. They rebated mine when I signed a 24-month contract.

Once you have service, you can order a disaster recovery kit on directv's website for $50, which includes a dish on a tripod. I don't know if you can get the HD dish though.

Anyone in BR want to make $100 bucks and add me to your account? All my friends are deadbeats who own nothing of any monetary worth. I want TV for the tailgates but have a great cable deal and don't want to sign up for DirecTV subscription. I've been trying for the last month to figure something out to get TV at the tailgate and I'm about to give up. I'm serious about the $100.

Why don't you just ask the people around your tailgate that you probably know pretty well? Our neighbor lets us piggyback the signal from their dish, so all we have to bring is the receiver and the TV and we run 3 TVs off of one dish.

We're tailgating in a new lot, so again, I'm left with no friends other than the one's I'm willing to pay.

I've got a directv dish that I will use two of the 4 lines for a hd tv. If you need to hook up to my dish and you have our own directv receiver, let me know.

Also, FWIW, if you're getting your own dish, I found these black bags at Cabela's made to hold a tent pole down and filled the 4 of them with pebbles to keep the satellite from blowing over.

Wrap aluminum foil around them...it's like HD.

1LSULM fan , I do have an DTV receiver that works, if you would be willign to help I'd really appreciate it, I've been striking out all over town and am just running out of time, one of the many downsides of gainful employment!

Seriously, I'm in lot R, where are you going to be Saturday?

What if you live out of state, but have Dish or DirectTV, will it work when you are in BR? My brother has extra receivers and dish that I want to use for tailgating. Anyone know if that will work?

I think if you get an off-air antenna (aka rabbit ears) and hook it up to the box you should be able to get them to show up on your menu...that's what i'm hoping anyway, will be testing it out Saturday

can't you get one of those "HD" antennae?

It's basically like HD rabbit ears, but that would only work for broadcasting HD channels... DirecTv is the way to go otherwise.

If I already get the new orleans local hd channels at my house, shouldn't I get them with my receiver in BR. The channels you get is based on what your card is programmed to get I thought.
