I'll never understand why people are so defensive about teaching nuanced American history. Criticizing institutions like slavery and the genocide of native Americans is an important component to being an informed American citizen.

No one is saying that. And what history curriculum doesn’t teach slavery, the trail of tears, and other difficult topics in American history?

The 1619 project is focused on erasing - “cancelling” - important figures in American history because they were complicit in a system that was used for racism. It ignores the nuance and instead indoctrinates that no matter the historical context, any direct or indirect connection to immoral acts nullifies their contribution.

This is a very true statement. In fact I would take it one step further that the 1619 Project is a tool to rewrite history in such a way that it becomes a work of fiction to implement their flawed agenda. They do not want equality but rather equality of outcome.

Agreed but the OP does not mention the 1619 Project. It uses fake history in a way that is magnitudes worse and justifies Leftist ideology like the 1619 Project.

If you ignore the fact that slaves were largely bred and traded internally, with numbers exponentially larger than those imported directly from Africa earlier on, you are just as bad, if not worse, than those propagandists.
It is either massive ignorance or severe dishonesty.
2 fake histories fo not equal accurate history.
