I am thinking about getting my notary commission. I have been doing some research, but I was wondering if anyone had some information of some things to expect. How long should I wait to take the test, etc. I am still in school, so I will have to study whenever I have a chance.

I think it varies by parish....I looked into it in Ouachita parish last year...
you basically have to take a review course typically provided by a local attorney...the cost of the class was a few hundred dollars (they expect your company to pay).....and the class was like a night class in college about three hours per session from like 6 - 9 PM for several weeks leading up to the test....
the whole shite seemed like quite a racket to me....
I opted not to do it, as if you move to another parish, you have to do it all over again....
