And the Pledge of Allegiance was written by a socialist.

quote:That term "allegiance" has always rubbed me the wrong way. Its very essence screams "Don't do as I do, do as I say do!" Very Stalinesqe in nature. And one other thing, the phrase "under God" was dropped in there, later on, to make it more palatable to the vast majority of Americans.
And the Pledge of Allegiance was written by a socialist.
Lastly, when I think of Woody Guthrie's boy, Arlo, I am reminded of all the boys and girls from upper-middle-class to very wealthy families that I went to St. John's College with, many of whom were from the Boston area, that bought their clothes from goodwill and pretended to be poor. I spect Elisabeth Warren is this type too. After all, she's originally from Oklahoma just like the Guthries, and also, she wound up in Boston pretending to be someone she's not, just like Arlo. Birds of a feather flock together I guess.
