Phil Niekro & Don Sutton.
2 of my all time favorite pitchers gone in the last 2 or 3 weeks.
Neither had over powering stuff.
They simply knew how to pitch, eat up innings, get guys out, each winning over 300 games.
Sutton was the definition of durability. In his 23 years as a MLB Pitcher, he never missed his turn in the rotation.
Don's Senior year of high school at Clio Alabama, he would face Foley Alabama for the baseball state championship. Kenny "Snake" Stabler would be the opposing pitcher.
Foley won the game 1-0. Don had 14 strikeouts. Snake had 16. It would be Don's only loss as a high school starting pitcher.
324 wins would follow in his great MLB career.
RIP Don.
