Almost 14 years here and never even thought about building a fire. We have two though, one in the basement, and they somehow share the single chimney. The room that the fireplace is in upstairs used to be a small den. We’ve since converted it to a master bath. I think at one point my wife had an iron candle holder in there when it was the den. I just turn on the gas furnace if we’re cold. It would be a pain to haul logs to where either of them are located. And cleanup would be a huge pain as well. I guess even back in the 60s when it was built they didn’t think about it being used.
