Damn. Sorry to hear that.

Which one do you go to? I do think that Rouses doesn't put as much effort into their older "acquired" stores as they do their new locations.

They had a spat years ago with Associated Grocers before they split off. I think they are sources from Supervalu now. Rouses was trying for years to break into the Baton Rouge market, and the dam sort of cracked when they bought LeBlanc's.

The Associated Grocers (based in Baton Rouge) stores are all independently owned, local chains. It's a co-op system. The stores vary widely in style and quality. Alexander's on Highland was pretty good last time I was there. Hi Nabor is an old Baton Rouge grocery chain that I think sources inventory from AG. Matherne's is another longstanding AG store, but they scaled back recently to only LSU and downtown. I thin Dorignac's is another AG sourced store. AG also serves a lot of old, tiny small town stores all over Mississippi and Louisiana.

Not sure who owns Audubon Market in St. Francisville or where they source their products from, but it's a very good store for such a small town.
