I'm somewhere between 5'8" and 5'9" barefoot and people call me short.
I read somewhere that below a certain level (5' 11" I think), being an inch shorter doubles male suicide risk. So a 5' 10" man has double the risk, and 5' 9" man quadruple, etc.
ETA: Effect isn't quite that dramatic, but here's a study about it: fauci.blogspot.com

Height has never mattered to me when dating. Even as a tall woman just didn’t care. Been with shorter (barely 5’7)and taller guys(6’4).
What I have noticed is that many (not all) short guys have huge chips on their shoulders cause of it. Little man syndrome has some truth to it.
