re: Mechanic help needed - wife's car makes a weird noise that I can't pinpoint

A fairly simple thing to check is the radiator fans. When those electric fan motors start to wear out, they can make a variety of noises from a whine to a rumble. And they may run smooth under certain conditions, but get noisy at various speeds (due to wind resistance) or other situations.
Just an idea.
