I’m perfectly fine with being selfish

I get nothing from these players besides satisfaction when they play good and LSU wins

They don’t send me a commission or royalty when they go pro

When the fans quit showing up and the big donners quit giving, we will see who owes who.
Its symbiotic.

Correct...maybe

It's a business decision. We hear this over and over again.

To go to the NFL draft early - It does not always work out. (examples upon req.)

Does valuing commitment, meeting your obligations, finishing what you started, mean anything to anyone? Yourself, your current employer, or you potential employer.

Character matters. Lack of it always eventually shows. NFL Gen. Managers I am sure think so.

Let's consider some more factors.

What is best for the young man?
Average length of career in the NFL?
Potential earnings as football player? Not everyone is OBJ.
The Math involved in your first contract is probably your last contract.

Is free room and board, food, and a college education worth anything?

It is a complicated issue...

The debate continues

Louisiana is an employment at will state. An employer has the right to terminate an employee at will unless there is a contract or the reason for termination is illegal. The argument being the employee can quit employment at will why can’t the employee terminate him at will.

College athletes, although not employees, are in a similar position with their universities. They may be released at any time. They owe the universities, coaches nor fans the right to profit from their talents. Especially the LSU fans who turn on the athletes at the drop of a dime as if the athletes owe them personally something.

The same LSU fans who are against them marching for equal justice under the law. Fans who automatically call them liars and take sides against them when they say they have been treated unfairly be police. Fans who.Demonize them when they speak out about Black Lives. Or cheer for their failure once they have used up their usefullness at LSU.Those type fans should STFU and let these athletes make decisions they feel are in the best interest of themselves and their families.

I guarantee not a one would pledge to financially support an athlete who stays and is permanently injured or loses millions in values because they stayed. Sort of like Stevens who chose to return. What was the response of those fans to Stevens? They cheered his return. Now to them he’s just another bum. He has lost millions by returning. Will those fans make up those millions? Hell no! He’ll be thrown on their trash heap like the many others whose usefulness to them ended.

If they quit mid season, should they be charged for tuition and the use of exercise facilities and trainers?
Doesn't a four year scholarship enable athletes access to the best nutrition and training, in preparation for a possible NFL career? If they use them and run, why shouldn't they reimburse?

What is the purpose of college athletics? If they owe us nothing, then what if no one watches their games? That would be great to see.
